20 Mln Leva Are Calculated For Maintenance of the Roads during the Forthcoming Winter Period

Road Executive Agency transferred to the district road administrations 3 mln lv in advance for the winter maintenance. For maintaining of the republic road net during the forthcoming winter season are envisaged totally 20 mln lv. The procedures for supply of sand by districts are already conducted and contracts are being awarded with the supplying companies. According to the preliminary calculations for the 2005 – 2006 season 163 500 m3 of sand and 28 700 tones of salt will be needed. A procedure for selection of supplier companies for supply of technical salt for the needs of the district road administrations has been running at the moment. REA has made preliminary preparation of the roads for the winter season, including mending of certain road sectors, refreshment of the road-line markings and restoration of the missing and damaged road signs. In the restoration activities except the mending and signalization were carried out as well cleaning of ditches, pumping shafts and appliances, cutting off tree branches and bushes in the range of the road signs and in the turns for ensuring better visibility. The banquets, side road sites and platforms have been observed. Their condition is of importance for ensuring the proper work of the snow-cleaning equipment and the organization of the traffic in bad meteorological conditions.
