A contract for a site-investigation and planning of the “Studena” dam

The Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works has signed a contract “Site-investigation, design and bidding documents for “Studena dam” with the company SVECO Energoproekt.
The rehabilitation of the dam’s wall and the adjoining facilities and fittings will be implemented within the project’s framework “Municipal Infrastructure Development”. It is financed via loan by the World Bank and the financial resources of the state budget.
The loan agreement includes the design and construction of three new dams- Plovdictsi, Neykovtsi and Luda Yana, as well as the rehabilitation of the Studena dam. As a separate component, the agreement includes the preparation of the regional master plans for water supply and sewerage system on the territory of the whole country.
The contract with SVECO Energoproekt envisages the elaboration of a detailed assessment and analysis of the preset condition of the wall, the facilities and the rehabilitation project. Bidding documents, estimate of works and materials and draft sketches for choosing the executor of the construction and renovation works are to be elaborated. The contract’s deadline is by the end of the summer 2013, when a contractor will be chosen to start the real rehabilitation of the wall and the adjoining facilities. The works have to end by the end of the summer 2015.
The dam of "Studena" has been operating since 1953. It was built mainly to regulate the waters of the River Struma and its tributaries - Matnitsa and Kladnitsa. It has provided industrial and drinking water supply in the region of Pernik, and also power and protection of the surrounding farmland from flooding. The total volume of the reservoir is 20 million m3.
