The Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Veselina Terziyska presented the progress on the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN). In a round table with experts from the public administration, industry organisations, universities, NGOs and trade unions, the implementation of Goal 6 “Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all” and Goal 11 “Transform cities and human settlements into inclusive, safe, adaptable and sustainable places to live” was reported. The MRDPW is the lead institution for both objectives, leading, coordinating and controlling the monitoring and reporting of their implementation.

The event is part of the preparations for the Second Voluntary National Review of the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development provides for follow-up and review of the implementation of the Goals at national, regional and global levels. In 2020, the Republic of Bulgaria conducted its first Voluntary National Review of the implementation of the Goals, and in October 2023, our country was invited to proceed with the preparation and submission to the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development of a second Voluntary National Review, based on the principles of openness, inclusiveness, transparency for all, with a special focus on the most vulnerable and lagging behind groups.

The meeting presented the timeline for the second Voluntary National Review and summarized the preliminary information received to date. Participants had the opportunity to present their vision on the opportunities and challenges in the process.
