Deputy Minister Dimcho Mihalevsky Gave the Start of the Construction Works on WWTP in Haskovo

The deputy minister of regional development and public works Dimcho Mihalevsky, the Great Britain ambassador Jeremy Hill and Ruud van Enck –manager of department “Phare and ISPA” in the European Commission Delegation in Bulgaria have turned today the first sod for the construction of a waste water treatment plant in Haskovo. The construction of the plant is a part of the implementation of the project “Waste water treatment plants in Maritsa river basin”. It is the largest investment project in Haskovo district. In the frames of this project has started the construction of WWTP and sewage infrastructures in Stara Zagora and Dimitrovgrad. The carrying out of “Waste water treatment plants in Maritsa river basin” is being realized in cooperation with European Investment Bank (EIB) and EC. The total value of the financing for Haskovo is over EUR 20 mln., ensured from EIB. The building contract amounts to EUR 19 309 633, and the surveillance contract – to EUR 1 238 667. The WWTP construction contracts include design, construction and delivering of fully accomplished and functioning WWTP. In addition it envisages building of installations and equipment supply for water treatment from nitrogen – phosphorus admixtures. Awarding side of the project contracts is MRDPW, ISPA Agency. The construction of the treatment plants is entrusted to the British consortium “Biwater” and the surveillance will be carried out by the project consultant Mot McDonald. The project for building of waste water treatment plants in the three towns is in accordance with the “National program for priority building of town WWTP in settlements with over 10 000 inhabitants”. At the moment the waste domestic and industrial waters discharge without treatment in Maritsa river. The aim of the project for building of the three treatment plants is diminishing of the Maritsa river pollution and its feeders and following improvement of the quality of the water in Aegean Sea.
