Desislava Terzieva: “Neykovci” dam will provide water supply for 30 000 people

 

„The survey is necessary to assess the condition of the already built and to make a design to complete the dam wall“, Minister Terzieva said. The indicative amount for the building of the equipment and the potable water treatment plant will be known after the development of a technical design. The procurement procedure for assignment of a contractor can be announced during the second half of 2015 and the construction can start in 2016. 

 

The Minister informed that with the site completion will be provided continuous water supply for 30 000 people in Gabrovo region. To begin with Tryavna and Plachkovci will be water supplied and their population is almost 15 000 people. 

 

The dam construction started in 1978 but was suspended several times. 

In 2001 it was stopped definitely.  

„Our government has a new policy for the water supply field to reduce drastically the number of populated areas with disruption of the water supply”, stated Terzieva. Therefore the Ministry of Regional Development started a new program to fight against aridity which has a budget of BGN 20 million for 2014. Our ambition is to save a resource for it from the public investment program of the government for next year, said the Minister. 

Terzieva informed that the repair of “Hristo Smirnenski” dam wall will also begin this year. It is expected to start a procurement procedure for assignment of a contractor in August.  

 

The indicative amount for the rehabilitation for the dam wall “Hristo Smirnenski” is BGN 330 000.   The resources are provided under the state budget. „If no complain is submitted against the procedures, the rehabilitation can start at the beginning of 2015“, stated the Minister of Regional Development. This means that next year the dam will be filled in which will make the water supply in the region more secured. The equipment is a main source of water for Gabrovo and serves 18 populated areas of the municipality.
