The building of lot 3 of “Struma” motorway is a main priority of the government for the new program period of EU. That declares the Minister of Regional Development Desislava Terzieva, who opens a Discussing Forum for design for the road of subsections of Lot 3 of “Struma” motorway at the University of Architecture, Construction and Geodesy.

The Minister underlines that Lot 3, which is crossing the Kresna defile, is the most hard and difficult section of the motorway, because of the necessity to build a 15 km tunnel in length, which will  be the longest road in Europe and second in length in the world. The facility shall have two pipes, two access sections for each direction. The Lot 3 total length is about 65 km and its estimated amount is 1.7milliard BGN. For a completion of the motorway resources from OP “Transport and transport infrastructure” are ensured.

Desislava Terzieva explains, that Lot 3 of ‘Struma” motorway is divided into three sub sections. The first one - from Blagoevgrad to Krupnik – is 21 km in length, where a tunnel of 2 km in length will also be build to go to Zheleznica village.
The estimated value of the road, tunnel excluded, is 150 million BGN, and the underground equipment will cost 200 million BGN.

Lot 3.2 between Krupnik and Kresna, where the longest tunnel will be built, is 22km in length and it indicative value is of 1.1 milliards BGN. The depth of the equipment will be about 30km; it is in compliance with the geology and its entrance is near Krupnik before the Kresna defile and its exist is west after Kresna. It is planned to build cross joints between the tunnels for pedestrians, as well as cross joints for entrance of cars between both tunnels.

The last Lot 3.3 is between Kresna and Sandanski and is 23 km in length. It is foreseen to build 2 road junctions, six overhead crossings and underpasses and ten bridges about 1 km of length. The estimated price is 200 million BGN.

Terzieva said, that this year and middle of next year at the latest the procurement procedures for building of each section of Lot 3 of “Struma” motorway will be announced.

The Minister of Regional Development states that 8 modern rest areas are foreseen to be built every 15-20 km. 20-25 km will be taken of the motorway and there business will be able to construct petrol stations, food places and others. It is also foreseen to build 3 helicopter landing places to ensure that in case of emergency evacuation injured people can be transported as well as medicals. A control center will be set apart to service both tunnels and the motorway. The center will be about 40 hectares and there will be placed the snow-ploughs for maintenance in winter, ambulances, fire engines, surveillance cameras and others.
