Desislava Terzieva: The repair works on the three viaducts of “Hemus” and “Trakia” speedways will be finished up to the end of the year

The repair works of the road lanes at the viaduct at km 67 of “Trakia” speedway, direction Sofia – Plovdiv, can be finished before the term set up to the end of May. This was announced today by the Minister of Regional Development Desislava Terzieva during the inspection of the facility.

The reparation includes removing the entire upper construction and reinforcement of pillars, which support the facility. The viaduct is being almost entirely rebuilt, mentioned the Minister of Regional Development. At this this stage the installation of the cross-beams is being finished, she added.

Having completed the reparation of the lane, direction Sofia-Plovdiv, we will start repairing the lane ‘Plovdiv- Sofia’, said also the Minister.

Desislava Terzieva announced, that the traffic organization will remain as it is now – two-ways in one lane, and heavy-freight lorries over 12 tons will be redirected to road junction North near Plovdiv to the ring road of Karlovo and the Podbalkanski road  to Sofia. The entire rehabilitation of the facility will be completed up to the end of the year. Until then the rehabilitation of the viaducts at km 61 of “Trakia” speedway and of “Bebresh” along “Hemus” speedway must also be finished. The warranty period of the equipment is 10 years, during which the quality will be constantly surveyed.

This year, under the “Transit roads V” Project, will start the rehabilitation of old sections of “Trakia” speedway near Pazadzhik and Plovdiv and at the exit of Sofia, where it is most needed. Its value is  BGN 70 million. The site must be finished next year. The procurement procedures for selection of a subcontractor are in progress. The construction can start in the middle of the summer, after subcontractors have been chosen.

Minister Terzieva urged people to be patient during the reparation of the viaducts. In the long term it will ensure the safety of the travelers. We cannot work in winter time, she underlined. In case of traffic increase, we are ready to split it in two lanes in the direction of the heavier traffic.
Together with the Traffic police, we will do our best to avoid traffic jams, declared Minister Terzieva.
