The construction works of one of the roadways of the bridge over the Kakach river, part of phase 2 of the Western arc of Sofia ring road, has been implemented up to 90% so far. This was stated during the inspection by the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, Mrs. Lilyana Pavlova, the chairman of the Road Infrastructure Agency, eng. Lazar Lazarov, and eng. Doncho Atanasov – member of the management board of the Road Infrastructure Agency. Traffic will be redirected along this roadway after its completion in order to launch the construction of the other roadway of the facility.

The construction work on Kostinbrodsko shose /Kostinbrodski road/ junction continues. Due to the heavy swampy area, drainage pilots have been additionally implemented, which will decrease the groundwater level. Thus the load-bearing piles for the overpass of the road junction will be built. Parallel works have also been implemented on the direct road, where the western roadway is being under construction. After that traffic will be directed along it to construct the eastern roadway. Hard construction work has been provided on the road junction with the Northern Speed Tangent, where the Kalotina motorway will include. The construction activities should be completed by 1st September, 2016. This is the deadline in which no delays will be allowed, said Minister Pavlova. She required full mobilization from the contractor.

The construction of Section 2 of the Sofia Ring Road includes the construction of direct road from km 0+780 to km 6+308.17. Its total length is 5.3 km. Building of three road junctions has been envisaged – Stefanson, Lomsko shose and Northern Speed Tangent, a trestle over the future Stefanson boulevard, a new road to Voluyak station, overpass over the road to village of Mramor, etc.

The contractor of the construction and assembly works is European Roads DZZD, in which participants are GP Group OOD, Avtomagistrali – Cherno more AD, Patstroyinjenering AD. The contract value is nearly BGN102 mln., vat included.
The construction supervision is implemented by the Sofia – Zapad 2013 Association, including Patconsult 2000 EOOD, Rutex OOD, Transconsult BG OOD, and IRD Engineering S.r.l. Their contract totals  BGN719 040, vat included. The Western arc of Sofia Ring Road is an extantion of Lyulin motorway and a part of the Orient/Eastern Mediterranean Corridor, which connects Vidin with Kulata on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria.

Minister Pavlova, the Road Infrastructure Agency’s team of experts as well as representatives of the laboratory to the Agency, inspected the construction works on the implementation of the Northern Speed Tangent as well. They were convinced of the active work on the completion of the road junction at Rozhen Boulevard and Iliyansko shose /Ilienski road/.Due to the weather conditions we were able to catch up the lagging behind at highest level and I hope that the project will be completed by the end of the spring season, said the Minister.

Currently, construction and assembly works from кm 2+600 tо кm 5+687 are being implemented, such as excavation works, backfilling works, cement stabilization, asphalt works. Dislocation of the affected engineering networks of the route have been to an end.
At the end of last year 13 km of the Tangent  - the road sections between Botevgradsko shose and Lazar Mihaylov Boulevard as well as from Sofia Ring Road to the road for Trebich, were put into operation. About 3 km road section remains for completion. It is from the road to Trebich to Lazar Mihaylov Boulevard, there are 7 large facilities: 2 overbridges over Rozhen Boulevard and the Northern Speed Tangent at Iliensko shose junction; 1 trestle over Ilientsi station; 4 underpasses at km 2+880, km 3+321, km 3+887 Nauka Street and km 4+090.

The Northern Speed Tangent is of major importance for the traffic in Sofia, as it will reduce the road traffic from three pan-European transport corridors - № IV, VIII and X.  A great number of international transportation from and to Greece, Romania, Macedonia and Serbia, passing through Bulgaria, is realized through these corridors. In addition, the traffic from Hemus and Trakiya motorway, road І-6, road І-8 and many other second and third-class roads joins the traffic flow on Sofia Ring Road.
The Northern Speed Tangent is nearly 17 km long. The contractor of the construction works is Consortium HPVS-SST. The contract value is BGN180 mln, vat included.
