The winter maintenance of the national road network from November to March costs BGN 44.5 million. The saved resources amount to BGN 15.5 million, while BGN 60 million were set aside. That was stated during a press conference of the Minister of Regional Development Desislava Terzieva for presenting the results of the maintenance of the national roads for past winter season. Fines were enforced to some road maintenance companies of a total amount of BGN 100 776 (VAT included).
The Minister thanked to „Traffic police“, with whose teams the Road infrastructure agency (RIA) works with a good coordination and cooperation.
BGN 31.5 million to improve the condition of the road network will be invested in the next months from the Road infrastructure agency’s budget. BGN 15.5 million of them were saved from the winter road maintenance and BGN 16 million were taken from the RIA’s budget for current repair and maintenance, informed Terzieva.
The resources, saved from the winter maintenance, will be redirected to start a prevention repair of 230 km of second and third class roads – sections, which were not repaired for years and are in very poor condition. „We’ll start to repair stepwise these compromised sections of the national road network as a next step in the implementation of the new government policy to improve the condition of second and third class roads“, Terzieva said.
The repairs started at some places. A few days ago started the repair of 17 km of third class road network in Strelcha Municipality. These are the sections from the road Koprivshtitsa – Strelcha, which ensures a connection with the sub-Balkan road Sofia–Burgas, as well as from the road Strelcha-Pazardzhik. The sections have not been repaired for almost 50 years. Actively is being worked on the junction road ІІ-13 in Knezha as well. Next week we’ll also start the repair of 4 cross roads on the way Slanchev briag-Burgas. Our purpose is to finish the construction works before the beginning of the tourist season, in order to make the traffic easier and to ensure safely passing through cross roads, declared the Minister.
BGN 16 million from RIA’s budget, under the Program for a current repair, will be used to mend the road covering. The resources, foreseen for investments in April, are BGN 6 million, and for May – BGN 10 million. The most loaded roads – speedways, first and second class road sections will be mended anteriorly. The aim is to finish the repair of the most loaded roads and those leading to the sea and mountain resorts and we should do it before the start of the tourist season, said the Minister.
Desislava Terzieva summarized that rehabilitation and prevention repair of almost 1500 km of national roads will continue or start in the new construction season.
About 150 km of roads in total will be rehabilitated under several European programs funded under the European fund for Regional Development.
The rehabilitation of about 500 km of national roads will continue this year under the „Transit roads V“ program. Towards the end of this summer we should start the rehabilitation of about 50 km of old sections of “Trakia” speedway at the exit of Sofia and near Plovdiv and Pazardzhik. Further, the rehabilitation of 220 km more will start as well.
The implementation of some projects under the Public investment program “Growth and sustainable development of the regions” has been already started. With the provided over BGN 50 million, this year will be repaired over 270 km of second and third class roads that haven’t been repaired for years and are in very poor condition.
At the end of the press conference Minister Terzieva called on the drivers to be patient and show understanding towards the repair works in progress, to drive carefully, observing the restrictions and instructions of the controlling authorities. The purpose of the repairs is to achieve good quality of the roads and to make them safer, concluded the Minister of Regional Development.
