"Digitalization of the construction and investment process is important not only for the construction sector, but also for the Bulgarian economy."

This was said by Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Valentin Yovev, who launched the implementation of the project "Preparation and launch of digital reform of the Bulgarian construction sector".

The project is funded under the Structural Reform Support Programme 2017-2020 and is worth EUR 300 thousand.

It is envisaged to develop a strategy and a roadmap with concrete steps to reform the sector by introducing building information modelling throughout the construction and investment process.  Changes to the national regulatory framework in line with the European one will be developed and a National Digital Platform Plan for Construction will be prepared.  It will define a standardised open data format for information exchange between suppliers and procurers - necessary standards for the introduction of construction information modelling, IT infrastructure, shared databases, their joint implementation in line with requirements introduced in the European market.

"The digitalization of the construction and investment process will ensure higher quality and faster pace of design and execution of the objects, as well as their better maintenance and prolongation of their life," stressed the Deputy Minister during the online meeting.  She added that digitalization will also increase the competitiveness of Bulgarian companies, which will be able to meet the requirements of the global construction markets.
