On 8 and 9 March 2004 the Regional Development and Public Works Minister Valentin Cerovski will make a visit to Dobrich and Silistra.
On Monday Minister Cerovski will attend the session of the Development District Council in Dobrich, which is convened by the Chairman – District Dobrich Governor, Mr. Ivan Ivanov.
On Tuesday /9 March 2004/ Minister Valentin Cerovski will turn the first sod for the construction of the Cross Border Check Point Silistra. The ceremony will be held at 11 o’clock in Silistra on the spot where will be constructed the cross border check point. Silistra District Governor Mr. Petko Dobrev, representatives of the European Commission Delegation for Bulgaria, of the Romanian Embassy in Bulgaria and the representatives of the local authorities on the part of Romania, deputies from the region and other official guests. The project for the construction of the Cross Border Checkpoint Silistra is funded under PHARE – CBC with Romania. The tender procedure awarded the Bulgarian Consortium Sikonko the Contractor of the construction works, and the Supervisor – the English consultant company Mott McDonald. The construction contract is worth 2,393 million euro, and the construction supervision – 329 thousand euro. The construction of the new Cross Border Checkpoint Silistra will last 18 months. It is envisaged to be constructed buildings for customs and passport and visa control, for road user charges and permits, as well as laboratories for phyto-sanitary and medical control, infrastructural connections on the construction site, paved areas, roads and site planning, waste water treatment plant and a water reservoir. The tender procedures for selection of contractor and supervisor for the road to the Cross Border Checkpoint Silistra are due to be completed by August 2004.
