Over BGN 3.6 million from OPRD have been invested in the modernization of the academy building in the center of Sofia
The renovated building of the National Sports Academy "Vasil Levski" in the centre of Sofia is presented in a special video of the European Commission. The video is included in the "Stories from the Regions" series of the Commission's Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy, which aims to present successful projects in Europe supported by EU funds.
Over BGN 3.6 million, provided by the Operational Programme "Regions in Growth" 2014-2020 managed by the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works, have been invested in the renovation of the historic building of the academy. Major repairs and modernisations have been carried out, including complete renovation, replacement of windows and a new roof. A reorganisation has been made in the functional distribution of the premises. The flooring and the interior doors have been replaced. An external elevator, a new subscriber station and a complete heating installation were built with the funds from the program. Plumbing and electrical systems have been replaced. Video surveillance, security system, fire alarm system, etc. have been introduced. A major overhaul of the sanitary facilities has been carried out, new locker rooms have been built.
Among the acquisitions for the academy is a multifunctional sports hall, which is completely newly built and furnished. Under the project, new furniture and equipment was delivered and installed for classrooms and offices, lecture halls, conference hall, library, reading room and archive, as well as the sports hall and locker rooms. The renovated base is intended for the education of 4,800 people, and citizens also have access to the new sports equipment.
Thanks to the OPRD investment, the academy already meets modern standards for training in professional fields such as educational sciences for sports teachers, which are in great demand in the labor market.
