The public transport of Russe is going to be modernized with BGN 29 million

In presence of the minister of regional development and public works Lilyana Pavlova, the Head of the Managing Unit of Operational program “Regional development”(OPRD) Denitsa Nikolova and the mayor of Russe Plamen Stoylov have signed a contract today. It refers to project „Modernization and development” of a stable public transport of Russe” under scheme BG161PO001/1.5-03/2011 „Support of integrated public transport in five major cities“. Four other beneficiaries have signed contracts – municipalities of Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Varna and Pleven.

The total value of the project amounts to BGN 29 379 323.89. BGN 26 011 937.93 of them are free financial aid, provided by OPRD. The municipality’s contribution is amounting to BGN 256 215.15.

The project includes many activities outside aimed financing for public transport, minister Pavlova said when the contracts have been signed. It completion will improve the public transport services and the infrastructure of Russe, she added. 

It is important not only to develop and build European transport corridors, but also to complete this project, in order to ease the intensive traffic due to transits, to reduce traffic jams and pollution, Minister Pavlova also said. She said to notice that this investment is done in addition to the whole development of Russe. With resources provided by OPRD the public areas of Russe are improved. Many other projects are done as well and they refer to culture, education and social infrastructure, reminded minister Pavlova.

The project for integrated public transport of Russe comprises 8 elements:
- Electronic system for tax collection from  passengers
- System for control and management of public transport
- Ease the access of organized public transport (OPT) along Tsar Osvoboditel boulevard
- Build a passage near the railway to connect Rodina residence area to the center
- Improve the access to OPT of Chaika residence area
- Build cycling areas
- Rehabilitate trolley buses infrastructure  – pillars and contact network
- Improve access OPT stations and pedestrians and cyclists safety along Bulgaria boulevard.

The municipal administration of Russe wants to make the citizen more confident towards public transport. As a result it is expected that 1600 people will not longer use their personal cars.
