The Roads Executive Agency and the British-Greek Consortium Hill International/ADO signed the Contract on Lots 3, 4, 8 and 9 under the Transit Roads Programme worth 1,438,600 euros. Construction supervision will be provided by the independent consultant with the financial participation of the Agency. The project will be funded from EU/ISPA and the National Budget. The project includes the rehabilitation of road sections along Trans-European Transport Corridors 4, 8 and 9 in the territory of Bulgaria grouped together in four lots totalling about 245 km. The co-financing package totals 40 million euros, of which 30 million (or 75%) are to be provided by EU/ISPA and the remaining 10 million (or 25%), from the National Budget. For works contracts, totalling 31,322,129 euros, were signed after an open international tender held on 30 October 2003. An 18-month construction period and a 12-month warranty period were agreed. The subject lots include: Lot 3: Improvement of the operational condition of Class 1 Road I-5 between Kanzanluk and Stara Zagora, including a bypass of Stara Zagora, over a total of 65 km. The contract, worth 11,827,795 euros, was awarded to the Bulgarian consortium VIA SEVT. Lot 4: Sections of the Hemus Motorway over a total of 38.8 km. The contract, worth 3,610,568 euros, was awarded to the Austrian STRABAG. Lot 8: Sections of the Sliven-Bourgas Class 1 Road I-6 over a total of 66.5 km. The contract, worth 6,139,283 euros, was awarded to the Bulgarian consortium PANVIA. Lot 9: Sections of the Vidin-Montana Class 1 Road I-1 over a total of 73.4 km.
