“The Managing Authority of the 2021-2027 Development of Regions Programme managed to catch up and speed up the announcement of the programme’s application procedures. The first contracts under Priority 4 ‘Just Transition’ have already been signed and to date 117 contracts have been signed for a total grant amount of just over BGN 177 million.’

This was announced by Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Yura Vitanova during the fourth meeting of the Just Transition Subcommittee of the Monitoring Committee of the Development of the Regions Programme 2021-2027. In three consecutive days meetings of the subcommittee were held in the districts of Stara Zagora, Pernik and Kyustendil.

"We hope that by the time of the meeting of the Monitoring Committee of the programme in July, all 129 approved contracts will be signed for nearly BGN 192.5 million under the procedure for energy renovation of multi-family residential buildings under Priority 4," Vitanova announced. She stressed that the just transition not only enables municipalities and citizens in the affected regions to receive additional European funding, but also obliges them to implement in the most effective and successful way all important projects for the green transformation in the regions and to maintain the engagement of local communities.

So far, nearly 1960 project proposals have been submitted under the procedure "Diversification and adaptation of small and medium-sized enterprises to the economic transition", which shows not only the great interest in the programme, but also the active attitude and willingness of stakeholders on the ground to participate in the processes of change in the regions, it became clear from the words of the Deputy Minister. The region of Stara Zagora submitted the highest number of project proposals, 1392, which is nearly four times more than those received from other regions.

During the meeting, the Deputy Regional Minister appealed to those present to continue active cooperation and dialogue in order to further promote the interest of local communities in the programme. “The aim is to help the processes of green energy transition and environmental protection on the ground to happen even more efficiently,” Vitanova explained. She added that this is a huge challenge, as the transformation in the regions must be done in the fairest way for citizens, businesses and stakeholders on the ground.
