6 Bulgarian organisations with projects for over 1.7 million euro applied for the first call

The second call for projects for funding from the European Transnational Cooperation Programme “Euro-Mediterranean Basin” 2021-2027 (Euro-MED) opens. In this context, the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works, in cooperation with the Programme Secretariat, is organising an information day on the second call for thematic project proposals. The event will take place from 10:00 to 13:00 on 27 July 2022 in a remote format. Those wishing to participate should fill in the registration form at https://rb.gy/icyqus.

The aim is to inform potential partners from Bulgaria about the objectives and opportunities for participation, the eligibility conditions for project proposals, the selection of partners, the application process and other topics related to the call. It will support joint projects in the four Euro-MED thematic areas of Innovative Economy, Natural Heritage, Green Housing and Sustainable Tourism. The deadline for submitting project proposals is 27.10.2022. Partners can be local, regional or national authorities, academic organisations, NGOs, business associations, enterprises, etc.

The programme provides 80% funding for each project, an additional 15% is national co-financing and 5% of the budget must be the participants’ own contribution.

The first call was launched between February and June this year. It invited projects for activities in the field of institutional dialogue - with regional and national public authorities as beneficiaries. 13 proposals were submitted with 117 partners from all participating countries. From Bulgaria 6 organisations are participating with a total budget of over 1.7 million euro. The projects aim to improve coordination between the different projects in the different thematic areas of the programme and to create information networks in order to successfully integrate the results into practice and public policies. The activities are of a framework nature, targeting the future thematic projects of the Programme’s innovation and environment priority. ERDF co-financing is 80%. The projects are currently in the evaluation phase, which is expected to be completed in the second half of September and implementation to start in November 2022.

The Euro-MED programme covers 69 level 2 (NUTS 2) regions in 14 countries and has a budget of €294 million. It supports cooperation across Mediterranean borders and provides funding for projects developed and managed by public administrations, universities, private and civil society organisations. It brings together partners from 10 EU Member States (Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Slovenia and Spain) as well as four candidate countries - Albania, Montenegro, the Republic of North Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Bulgaria participates with its entire territory in the programme.

The programme supports activities aimed at developing new technologies, transitioning to a circular economy, disaster risk reduction, preserving biodiversity, green housing, promoting sustainable tourism and supporting cooperation.

The functions of the National Authority for Bulgaria are carried out by the Directorate for Territorial Cooperation Management in the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works.
