Another 11 stations for dirty water are being built or repaired in 10 cities with funds under OPE 2014-2020

13 wastewater treatment plants will be built and rehabilitated in small and medium-sized settlements in the country. They will be financed with over BGN 471.6 million from the Recovery and Sustainability Plan, the amount including the national deductible. The stations that will treat polluted waters are planned to be built and rehabilitated in Devnya, General Toshevo, Pavel Banya, Dulovo, Ahtopol, Krumovgrad, Devin, Galabovo, Straldzha, Dolni Chiflik, Saedinenie, Kotel and Rogosh - Skutare, which fall into the agglomerations of the respective administrative districts. Due to the population in them - between 5 and 10 thousand people, the settlements do not have the opportunity to apply for funding for treatment plants under operational programs. At the same time, the necessary investments exceed the capabilities of local water supply and sewerage operators and municipal authorities.

Another 11 wastewater treatment plants in the country are currently being built or reconstructed with funds from the Operational Program "Environment" 2014-2020. Under the program for the previous programming period, funding amounts to just over BGN 2 billion. Beneficiaries are water and sewerage companies, operators in consolidated territories. The wastewater treatment plants in the Meden Rudnik district of Burgas and in Burgas, Stara Zagora, Nova Zagora, Sliven, Pernik, Vratsa, Kozloduy, Obzor and Smolyan are being modernized. A new station is being built in Karnobat.

The sites that will be financed under the environmental program in the period 2021-2027 are to be specified. According to it, the total resource by 2027 is BGN 1.5 billion and again the beneficiaries will be the water companies, operators of consolidated territory. Water supply and sewerage companies are expected to be clear after the adoption of the final reports on the new six regional pre-investment studies (RPIPs) for Water and Sewerage Associations for Haskovo, Pleven, Sofia, Gabrovo, Veliko Tarnovo and Targovishte districts. They are prepared on behalf of the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works and are funded by OPE 2014-2020.

The construction of drinking and wastewater treatment plants is a priority for the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works. In addition to the funds from the recovery and sustainability plan for improving the water supply, drainage and treatment of polluted water in the settlements, the regional ministry is expected to launch a fund for financing municipalities with projects to improve water supply and sewerage infrastructure. The expected budget is BGN 250 million.
