Bulgaria and the Free State of Saxony can cooperate in the field of energy efficiency. This possibility was discussed at a bilateral meeting by the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works - Violeta Komitova and the Minister for Regional Development of the German province- Thomas Schmidt.
At a meeting at the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works, the two commented on the challenges posed by the forthcoming restructuring of the coal regions. Climate change, finding cleaner energy sources, cleaner cities of the future, energy savings, low-energy buildings, etc. were identified as possible topics for future joint cooperation.
Minister Schmidt stressed that a major topic for Saxony is the transformation of future former mining companies, with the aim of using innovations to move towards clean energy sources. He emphasized that common solutions could be found on the basis of research and new technologies, and noted the possibilities for funding such initiatives available to the European Union.
I deeply share the view that without science, there can be no prosperity in any area of life. The sooner we manage to implement innovations in real life, the sooner we will prosper, said Minister Komitova.
The Regional Minister stressed that our country is preparing a renovation project to increase the energy efficiency of multifamily residential and public buildings with funds from the National Plan for Reconstruction and Sustainability, as well as to increase the energy efficiency of water infrastructure to ensure social value of water.
The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works- Ivan Shishkov, Georgi Kolarov - Advisor to the Regional Minister and HE Christoph Eichhorn - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany in Sofia.
