"The good political dialogue we have seen in recent years between Bulgaria and China finds practical application in concrete agreements, which I believe will grow into concrete joint public-private partnership initiatives."

This was stated by Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Nikolai Nankov, who met with representatives of the China International Contractors Association.

At the meeting, Nankov presented specific projects in the field of road infrastructure and opportunities for their implementation on the principle of public-private partnership with foreign investors.

Among the possible sites for joint implementation, he outlined the Ruse - Veliko Tarnovo highway, as well as the tunnel under Shipka Peak and the Cherno More highway. The first site is a continuation of the Bulgarian territory of the Pan-European Corridor No. 9, connecting Southeast Europe with the Middle East, and the second site is part of Transport Corridor No. 8 and a direct connection between the two largest ports in Bulgaria – Varna and Burgas, the “doors” of our country from the East to Central and Western Europe.

“These projects have an extremely high potential for the implementation of the principle of public-private partnership and they provide great opportunities for foreign business interest in our country,” said the Deputy Regional Minister.

“The purpose of our visit is to find together with the Bulgarian side a suitable option for the implementation of specific projects, including in the field of transport and urban planning,” said at the meeting the Chairman of the China International Contractors Association Fang Qiuchen.

He stressed that representatives of the largest companies in the field of transport infrastructure and Chinese banks have come to our country and they are showing serious interest in investing in Bulgaria.
