It is my great pleasure that the Rehabilitation and Partial Reconstruction of Road II-15, Mizia – Oriahovo section /Bulgarian-Romanian border/ Project has started, the Regional Development and Public Works Minister Valentin Cerovski announced at the signing of the contracts with the selected contractors of the construction works and supervision of the Project. Owing to the money under PHARE Programme, we succeed in improving transport links and road infrastructure – with Romania in this instance. The construction under the Project will be executed by Patstroy 92 and Patstroyengineering – Vratza Consortium, and the construction supervision – by the English company Mott McDonald. The two contracts are worth 3,125 million euro and 156 thousand euro respectively. The Project starting today is a small but important link between the Pan European Transport corridors № № 7, 4, 10, said at the ceremony Giovanni Di Girolamo, Counselor and Head of PHARE & ISPA Department of the European Commission Delegation for Bulgaria. As the date for the end of the negotiations for Bulgaria’s accession to EU approaches as well as the date 1 January 2007, the efforts will be increasingly focused on the regional and infrastructural development of the country. The Rehabilitation and Partial Reconstruction of Road II-15, Mizia – Oriahovo section /Bulgarian-Romanian border/ Project envisages to be implemented rehabilitation and partial reconstruction of a road 16,5 km long, which establishes a connection with the ferryboat Oriahovo – Becket. The increased traffic for the last years has imposed its initial re-classifying in a second-class road, and now rehabilitation is starting. The road surface will be consolidated and the road technical parametres will be improved which will result in facilitating the commercial relations between the two countries and the access to the Bulgarian-Romanian border. We start work on 1 March this year and will have finished by 31 March 2005, announced the Patstroy 92 Executive Director Ivan Tzekov. He specified that during construction works the automobile traffic will not be ceased or redirected. I am glad that we have the opportunity to work with such a prominent contractor, underlined Yulian Tjufekchiev, Mott McDonald Manager for Bulgaria.
