"Greece connects us not only to the neighbourhood, but also to the partnership in a number of areas. This relationship is all the more important given one of the most significant events to come for our country – the introduction of the euro". This was stated by the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Ivan Ivanov at the opening of the Bulgarian Pavilion during the 89th International Exhibition in Thessaloniki.

"The euro requires attention not only to the opportunities it provides, but also to the concerns of our fellow citizens," the regional minister further said. In his words, it is important to know the experience of the countries that have adopted the euro, among which is Greece, and that the forum in Thessaloniki provides exceptional opportunities to study the experience on this particular topic. "I believe that our countries can be a driving force for the Balkans to become the best place for life and also for investment," said Minister Ivanov. He welcomed the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who chose to visit the Bulgarian pavilion.

Later, Minister Ivanov held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Development of the Hellenic Republic Panagiotis Theodorikakos, in which the two outlined the possibilities for closer cooperation. The two ministers were adamant that the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria would improve the investment climate and facilitate economic relations. The focus of the conversation was the development of industrial zones in both countries and the absorption of European funds, including through cross-border cooperation, where Bulgaria and Greece have deep traditions.
