Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works and Bulgarian Building and Construction Chamber Urge Construction Companies to Help Flood Victims

In an address to the managing and executive directors of all construction companies, Regional Development and Public Works Minister Asen Gagaouzov and Bulgarian Building and Construction Chamber President Simeon Peshov call on construction companies to render assistance to the victims of the floods caused by the torrential rains across the country. Construction companies could help by providing funds, construction materials, transport services and construction machinery for repairing the damage caused by the floods and alleviating the plight of the population in the disaster-hit areas. Companies could also help by offering research, design, consultation, repair, restoration and new construction services at preferential prices in the disaster-hit municipalities and regions. The address also calls for pooling the efforts of construction companies, the State Agency for Population Protection in Case of Disasters and Accidents, and the municipal and regional emergency teams. “We are also counting on your assistance in the restoration and reconstruction of damaged infrastructure: river beds and dikes, local and municipal roads and bridges, schools, kindergartens, monuments of culture, housing, water supply and sewerage,” Minister Gagaouzov and Dipl. Eng. Peshov write in their appeal. The appeal is also addressed to the National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria and to the chairmen of the regional representations of the Bulgarian Building and Construction Chamber. “The participation of your companies in relief and restoration operations in force majeure circumstances will be a sign of civic courage and a guarantee of stability, reliability and integrity,” the address goes on to say. The address also calls for high quality construction guaranteeing a maximum service life of the facilities so as to prevent undesirable consequences in the event of another natural disaster on the one hand, and efficient use of the funds provided by the national budget and donors on the other.
