Minister Petya Avramova acquainted her colleague Christos Spirtzis with the electronic toll collection system introduced in Bulgaria

The Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Petya Avramova met with the Minister of Infrastructure, Transport and Networks of Greece Christos Spirtzis. They spoke in Athens, where Avramova is attending the Fourth Ministerial Meeting of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s Regional Policy Committee.

Minister Avramova acquainted her colleague with the electronic vignette introduced in Bulgaria on January 1, 2019 and with the forthcoming introduction of tolls for heavy vehicles over 3.5 tons on August 16 this year.

The fastest and most convenient way to pay for electronic vignettes is via the Internet. In just a few minutes they are already active and you can safely travel on the toll road network in Bulgaria. This service is especially suitable for foreign citizens, so that they save time when entering Bulgaria at the border checkpoint. It is possible to postpone the purchase of an e-vignette up to 30 days before the expiration date.

Petya Avramova acquainted Minister Spirtzis with the channels for selling e-vignettes, including the websites www.bgtoll.bg, www.vinetki.bg, www.A1.bg, through the free mobile application BGTOLL, as well as at petrol stations and terminals for self-charging at the border checkpoints, etc.

The e-vignette purchase system does not allow the direct entry of Greek characters. For this reason, a correspondence table has been drawn up, through which Greek citizens with registration numbers with symbols from their alphabet need to enter the corresponding symbols at the time of purchase. The Greek Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport and Networks will disseminate this information to make things easier for citizens traveling through Bulgaria.

A total of 23,496 e-vignettes for BGN 662,684 have been sold to vehicles with Greek registration numbers by March 17 this year. Nearly 20,000 of them are for cars, the rest are for trucks. These sales rank Greece fourth among foreign drivers after Turkey, Romania and Northern Macedonia.
