Opportunities for co-operation in areas of mutual interest, including the development of road and water infrastructure, were discussed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Regional Development and Public Works - Grozdan Karadjov, and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Bulgaria, HE Alejandro Polanco. During the meeting, they noted the excellent bilateral political relations between the two countries.

Deputy Prime Minister Karadjov presented the priorities in his work. As such in the field of infrastructure, he pointed out the four-year program for renovation of the republican roads, construction of tunnels and bridge facilities, drinking water treatment plants and water supply networks. The completion and repair of the road network and the construction of three tunnels under the Balkan Mountains will be financed. The facilities will be under Petrohan, under Shipka peak and along the future Black Sea highway. Part of the funds will be invested in four new bridges - between Bulgaria and Romania on the Danube River and in Varna as part of the Black Sea highway. Other areas of priority will be the renovation of residential and public buildings and the creation of a regional development fund to fund local projects to improve the urban environment.

Foreign investors are also welcome in our country to participate in tenders and competitions, which are held on a competitive basis, said Deputy Prime Minister Grozdan Karadjov.

HE Alejandro Polanco pointed out that Spain has significant experience that could be useful for our country in terms of infrastructure modernisation. He stressed the importance of water management given his country's limited resources. Spain ranks second in the world and first in Europe in terms of the amount of reused water, informs HE Polanco.

Despite the differences in the way the sectors are managed and financed, the problems are the same and the way to solve them is similar, said the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain.
