The Prime Minister Stefan Yanev and the Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Zahari Hristov inspected the new Rudozem-Xanthi border checkpoint on the Bulgarian-Greek border. The point is being built with funding from the Crossborder Cooperation Programme "Greece-Bulgaria 2014-2020", managed by the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works and the state budget.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of the built infrastructure for the development of the economy and tourism of Bulgaria and Greece. "Everything is done well - 4 lanes in each direction, 2 lanes for cars, 1 lane for heavy traffic, 1 lane for buses. In addition to the administrative building, there is also a building for the medical authorities, which will be able to check those entering from the direction of Greece, "said Stefan Yanev.

Deputy Minister Zahari Hristov pointed out that the Rudozem border checkpoint was built according to all European requirements. "At the end of the year, it will be put into operation, which fulfills our commitment as a country," Hristov said.

The opening of the border crossing point will favor the development of the region. It will increase cross-border cooperation to increase human exchanges and trade.

During the inspection, the two were accompanied by Smolyan Regional Governor - Stefan Sabrutev and Rudozem Mayor - Rumen Pehlivanov.

Prior to the inspection of the border checkpoint, Prime Minister Stefan Yanev and Deputy Minister Zahari Hristov visited the village of Gela, where the traditional bagpipe competition and gathering took place, gathering thousands of guests. The mayor of the Rhodopean village of Momchilovtsi, Siika Surkova, also joined the official guests. "In Gela, we were convinced of how strong the Bulgarian traditions are and how strong the Bulgarian roots are," said Deputy Minister Hristov.

The tour of Prime Minister Stefan Yanev and Deputy Minister Zahari Hristov began yesterday with a visit to the Chepelare village of Zabardo, popular with tourists such as "Rhodope Hollywood" and the natural landmark "Wonderful Bridges".
