INTERREG VI-A IPA Bulgaria - North Macedonia 2021-2027 - Objectives

The INTERREG VI-A IPA Bulgaria - North Macedonia 2021-2027 programme was created to meet the needs and challenges of the cross-border region, identified by the Territorial Analysis and in accordance with key policies of the European Union such as green and digital transition, Territorial Agenda 2030, EU enlargement with the Western Balkans.

The general objective of the programme is to strengthen the territorial cohesion in the cross-border region between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia, necessary for the development of the cross-border region and the reduction of inequalities between the better places and those with less prosperous prospects or lagging behind.

The programme strategy includes integrated measures for territorial development - support for SMEs to improve their competitiveness and to lay the foundations for the creation of cross-border vegis of value (cooperative cross-border markets), improving mobility and connectivity in the region to cope with the growing traffic of people and goods between the two countries, as well as supporting joint actions to protect the environment and protect the biodiversity of the cross border region, which combine protection and conservation or focus on sustainable solutions for biodiversity protection and green infrastructure development.
